Happy Organized New Year!

Happy New Year!  With the week off of school it has been such a blessing to revamp and reorganize.  One resource I love and reference is "Managers of Their Home" by the Maxwells.

Managers of Their Homes: A Practical Guide to Daily Scheduling for Christian Homeschool Families

Do you have a favorite planner or organizer?  I have found a home binder works best for our home.  It contains my daily routine and quick reference sheets.  Along with forms, a basic monthly calendar is laid out for school.  I purchased these at Target in the $1.00 section in the front of the store.  Here is a link for some FREE online forms, thanks to moneysavingmom.

Here are two links for a basic home binder and its layout with printable pages.

Pass the Greens Please....

Oat Grass for the animals, a delicious treat on a very cold day!

It's been snowing everyday and was -12 below zero!  What better way to enjoy the cold with fresh picked vegetables, greens and ice cream!  The goats have been enjoying the ice cream... I mean oat grass we're growing for them.  The "new" year round green feed, which is only new to our animals, is a hit!  From day 1 they devoured it and would gladly give up hay for fresh greens!  With it being only supplemental, it still has high yield.  Our ratio started at 3 lbs of oats to 15.6 lbs of grass/ feed in 8 days near the wood stove. It really hasn't varied too much from that, even with it soaking it different lengths of time.  The main difference was our oats were stored in extreme cold and when I soaked them in very warm water, the germination was much better.  Also if someone is looking to do this, I've read so many varieties on lbs at a time.  The best for us was less, the thin layers germinated better and were still clumped together like sod to make the transfer to the feeder easy.  The rye grass did not get that same ratio, but the animals seemed to like it better and it germinated quickly (Especially the chickens).  We could have fed it to the animals in 5 days, but we are still working out the kinks on the greens for the critters.

Here are a few pictures...

Zeke also loves to play in the snow!  A boy without his dog, no way!

Steps are almost clean, thanks to a hard worker!

First big snowfall fun!

Cold weather calls for Ice Cream!
